Grow Our Own

The Grow Our Own program operates out of the CCSD Support Staff Recruitment Office. The Grow Our Own program is multi-faceted in that it arranges for employment in various CCSD operating departments (for the purposes of "growing our own") during the school year for 3 hours per day, as well as developing Summer internship opportunities.

Currently there are about 60 CCSD senior students working in six different operational areas - landscaping, vehicle mechanics, maintenance, broadcasting (KLVX), graphic arts, and custodial services - for 3 hours per day. It is hoped that these graduating students will seek regular status employment with CCSD after graduation (and if they do, then we were successful in "growing our own"). Each operating department is responsible for the costs associates with hiring these students and they can be paid $6.15/hr, $8.15/hr, or $10.15/hr (no benefits) depending on the department's funding and needs.

The Clerical Summer Internship operates a little differently. The internship is a paid, six hour per day clerical job with CCSD from June to August. They are placed by Support Staff Personnel into a position based on who has requested an intern, the skills of the intern, and the needs of the requesting office. Interns are paid $10.33/hr without benefits. As with the student workers during the school year, it is hoped that these interns can secure regular status employment with CCSD at the conclusion of the internship. Last year, 27 of 28 interns secured regular status employment. One intern declined the offer.
